Is River Valley Pest Guide a pest control company?

No. We are an independent information and quote-matching service. We publish pest guidance specific to the Fort Smith area and connect homeowners with vetted, licensed local providers. We do not perform treatments ourselves and we are not affiliated with any single company.

How does the free quote service work?

You fill out one short form describing the pest, the property and how urgent it is. We route that to licensed providers serving your area, and they contact you directly with estimates. It costs you nothing, there is no obligation to hire anyone, and your information is not sold.

What does pest control cost in Fort Smith?

A quarterly general pest plan runs $100–$185 per quarter. Termite treatment is typically $800–$2,500 for a liquid soil barrier. Mosquito programs run $450–$1,100 per season. Am I obligated to hire anyone after requesting a quote?

No. The service is entirely free and non-binding. Request quotes, compare them, and decide in your own time — including deciding to do nothing at all.

How are providers vetted?

We verify current state licensing (Arkansas State Plant Board or Oklahoma Department of Agriculture), confirm liability insurance, check for pattern complaints against the company, and review the warranty terms they offer. Providers who drop out of compliance are removed. You can read the full process on our About page.

Does homeowner’s insurance cover termite damage?

Almost never. Termite damage is classified as preventable maintenance and is excluded by standard Arkansas homeowner policies. That is the central reason preventive treatment is worth its cost here.

Should I sign a long-term contract?

For general pest service, a quarterly plan is usually better value than one-off treatments and most providers offer it without a long lock-in. For termite work, a warranty is expected — but read the term carefully and confirm whether it covers repair as well as retreatment. Avoid auto-renewing contracts with no review clause.

How do I compare quotes fairly?

Ask each provider the same three questions: what exactly is included, what follow-up is scheduled and is it included in the price, and what is the warranty term. Compare those answers alongside the total — a cheaper quote with no follow-up and a short warranty is usually worse value.

Timing

When to treat, how often, and how to prepare.

When is the best time of year to treat for termites?

Late winter or early spring, before swarm season begins. Treatment can be done year-round, but booking early avoids the spring rush and gets protection in place before the colonies become most active.

How often should pest control be done?

Quarterly for general pest service, annually for termite inspection, every 21–30 days through the mosquito season from April to September, and one time with follow-up for exclusion or bed bug work. Rodent monitoring can be monthly or quarterly depending on pressure.

When should I book mosquito control?

Before May. Programs that start in April suppress the first generation and substantially reduce peak-season populations. Booking in June means you are reacting to a population already established.

Do I need to do anything before a treatment visit?

It depends on the service. General pest and perimeter treatments need very little preparation. Bed bug treatment requires substantial preparation — laundering on high heat, clearing floor clutter and pulling furniture from walls. Your provider will give you a specific checklist in advance.

Safety

Children, pets, chemical exposure and what to do in an emergency.

Are pest control treatments safe for children and pets?

Applied as directed — to cracks, voids and perimeter soil, and allowed to dry — modern professional products present low risk. Tell your provider about pets, ponds, koi, vegetable gardens and any sensitivities before treatment. They will tell you the specific re-entry time for the product used.

How long do I need to stay out after a treatment?

Most exterior and perimeter products dry within 30 to 60 minutes and are then safe for people and pets. Interior treatments are typically 2 to 4 hours. Heat treatments for bed bugs require you to be out for the full day but involve no chemicals at all.

I saw a brown recluse and I am worried. How urgent is it?

Spider control is not an emergency, but it is worth acting on. In the meantime: shake out clothing, shoes and bedding before use, wear gloves when moving stored items, and reduce clutter along baseboards. If someone is bitten and the bite spreads, darkens or is accompanied by fever, seek medical care promptly.

Is it safe to clean up rodent droppings myself?

Wet them down with a disinfectant or bleach solution and let it sit five minutes before wiping. Never sweep or vacuum dry droppings — that aerosolises hantavirus particles. Wear gloves and a mask. Extensive contamination should be professionally removed.

Coverage

Where we work, on both sides of the state line.

What areas do you serve?

Fort Smith, Van Buren, Greenwood, Alma, Barling, Lavaca, Mulberry, Ozark, Charleston, Booneville, Mansfield, Mountainburg and Cedarville in Arkansas, plus Sallisaw, Roland, Muldrow and Poteau in Oklahoma. Coverage spans Sebastian, Crawford, Franklin, Logan, Scott, Le Flore and Sequoyah counties.

Do you serve rural properties outside these towns?

Yes. Rural acreage throughout the counties listed above is within the service area. Perimeter length and travel time affect pricing, but coverage is the same as for in-town properties.

Do Arkansas pest control companies serve Oklahoma?

Many do. The Fort Smith–Sallisaw–Poteau corridor is one economic market and reputable providers hold licences in both states. Confirm Oklahoma licensing with the Department of Agriculture before booking.

Choosing a provider

Licensing, warranties and the warning signs worth noticing.

What licensing should a pest control company have?

In Arkansas, commercial applicators are licensed through the State Plant Board. In Oklahoma, through the Department of Agriculture. Ask for the licence number and confirm it is current. For wildlife work, also confirm how protected species are handled — that is regulated separately by Arkansas Game and Fish and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.

What warranty terms should I look for?

For termite work, confirm whether the warranty is retreat-only or repair-and-retreat, how long it runs, and whether it transfers to a buyer. For exclusion work, look for 1 to 5 years on sealed openings. For general service, a free re-treatment between scheduled visits is standard and worth asking for.

What are the warning signs of a bad pest control company?

Pressure to sign immediately, a price far below what other providers quote, refusal to provide a licence number or a written estimate, a claim that they can eliminate brown recluse from a house, and any suggestion of using products they cannot name or describe. Trust your instincts and get a second opinion.

Should I get more than one quote?

For any job over a few hundred dollars, yes. Three comparable quotes will give you a real sense of the market and of how each provider communicates. Our quote service makes that a single form rather than three phone calls.

Still have a question?

Two options. If you want an answer, email us and we will respond — usually within a business day. If you are dealing with an active problem and want quotes, the form takes about two minutes.
